WHICH WAY KAKAMEGA 2022?

The 2022 Kakamega Gubernatorial contest is sure to be full of political intrigue and high level politics.

In what is shaping up to be a battle of the titans, the race has so far attracted former Senator Dr Bonny Khalwale, current Senator Malala as well as the Women Representative Hon Elsie Muhanda.

Shinyalu MP Hon Justus Kizito, and Stanley Khainga are among top politicians who have equally expressed interest for the position.

While Governor Oparanya is believed to have endorsed his Deputy Governor, Prof Philip Kutima, there is speculation that the Jubilee Chief Whi, Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali will throw his hat in the ring for governorship.

The ANC partly led by Hon.Musalia on its part seems to have already settled on Lugari MP Ayub Savula as its flagbearer for the position.

The race has however become tighter and difficult to predict as the ground now seems to be shifting with the entrance of technocrats such as KETRACO CEO Fernandes Barasa and renowned Mombasa based lawyer Leonard Shimaka.

Going by word on the ground, other possible aspirants are former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo and international business lady Mabel Marks Muruli who is keen on making a second stab at the governorship.
